Korean Celadon Bowl with Incised Birds, 12th Century

This is another fine and rare Korean ceramics from our large collection of oriental ceramics. Among all early Korean celadon wares, pieces with fine-point incised decoration from early Koryo period are very sought-after by serious collectors. This bowl we are offering is a good example of early Koryo celadon with its large elegant bulb-shaped form and beautifully incised decoration of two flying birds. The large bowl with heavy body is covered with smooth and transparent with fine celaon green color and brown patches. There are a few longglaze surface crackle lines which adds to the elagance of this classic bowl. The shallow base was supported by three large spurs during firing. Other than two very small restored chips inside the mouth rim, the large bowl is in excellent condition. This is a classic example of early Koryo celadon not to be missed by any serious collector of Korean ceramics.

Mouth rim diameter: 19.4cm; Height: 9.3cm
