Large Carved Jadeite Ink Slab, Qing Dynasty



Up for auction is a very rare and large ink slab carved from a natural boulder. The ink slab is carved into the shape of a double gourd with its upper side decorated in low relief of fruiting gourd plant on top of the water well and ink grinding slab. The underside retains part of the natural jadeite boulder skin. The polished jadeite surface is of fine semi-translucent white color with extensive areas of green patches. The jadeite surface has developed a fine patina from years of use. This rare large jadeite carving is in excellent condition.
