Pair of Japanese Blue-and-White Plates, 19th Century



We are offering a fine pair of Japanese blue-and-white plates from Arita kiln of the 19th Century. The deep plate with foliate side is decorated in deep cobalt blue pigment with a beautiful water scenery and scholars in a boat. An eight-character poem is inscribed in the middle of the plate. The mouth rim is coated with iron brown pigment. The back of the plate is undecorated with five spur marks. Other than normal surface wear, both plates are in excellent condition.
