A pair of Miniature Wucai Cups, Kangxi Mark & Period

This is a rare and delicate pair of cups painted with fine "Famille Verte" or "Wucai" palette on a pure white glaze and egg-shell thin porcelain body. Each cup has a wide mouth and a short fish bowl shape. One side of the exterior is sparsely painted with a simple chrysanthemum plant growing out of a rock work in fine enamel of clear green, aubergine, yellow and red colors. The other side is adorned with a single flying butterfly. The interior is painted in iron-red enamel with five small swimming fish. The indented base is inscribed with a 6-character Kangxi Imperial mark within a double-square in underglaze blue. Both cups are in excellent condition with pristine glaze and enamels.

It is unusual to find Kangxi Imperial wares with its mark written within a double-square, although many Yongzheng wares are marked in this manner. This pair of lovely cups are most desirable for Chinese ceramics loves who enjoy handling beautiful and small porcelain items.
