Rare Chinese Export Armorial Porcelain Cross, 18th Century



Up for auction is a rare Chinese export porcelain of a Christian Cross with a family crest. The so-called "Armorial Porcelain" is in the shape of a Christian cross with a fluted pocket-like lower end. Two family crests or coat of arms emblems in underglaze cobalt blue adorn the cross and the lower pocket. The top of the cross has a perforation for hanging. The raised ruyi ribs ends are painted with dark blue pigment. The back side is flat and left unglazed. Other than some surface glaze wear and stain, this rare and beautiful Chinese export armorial porcelain Christian cross is in excellent condition.
