Rare Green & Black Biscuit Vase, Tongzhi Mark & Period

We are offering this Qing Dynasty Imperial porcelain of a vase decorated with low-fired green and black pigment over biscuit. The vase has a long neck over a tall shoulder and constricted lower end with a splayed foot. The body is decorated with two stylized five-claw dragons facing each other in front of a lotus flower. A band of flowering vines encircles the shoulder. Five vertical pointed banana leaves surrounds the lower neck. The decoration is achieved by green enamel with black outlines within a dark black background. The base is inscribed with a six-character imperial Tongzhi (1862-1874) mark in black. The rare decorating technique using black and green enamels was popular during earlier reign of Qianlong and Yongzheng. This vase is an excellent example of this technique with its large size, elegant shape and precise reserve decoration of two colors. The vase is in excellent condition with pristine glaze. Size: 29.4cm; body diameter: 14.8cm
