Signed Blue-and-White Tea Pot, 20th Century

We are offering another fine Chinese early Republic period porcelain with typical superb decoration and pure white glaze. The small handled tea pot has a smooth ovoid body, a short spout and a small cover with a circular knob. One side of the tea pot is painted in fine cobalt blue with a kingfisher perching on a reed gazing attentively downward as if ready to prey on certain fish. The other side is painted sparsely with a group of swimming fish. The cove is painted with a single bamboo twig. The base is inscribed with a two character artist's signature. This is a truly testimonial piece for the early 20th century Imperial kiln revival with individual potters strived to excel by setting up their own studio. This tea pot must have been the work of an early Republic porcelain master who were active in Jingdezhen area. This lovely tea pot is in excellent condition except for a small surface crack at the unglazed rim inside the rim of the cover.
size: height: 8.6cm; body diameter: 7.4cm
