We are offering this large famille rose vase from Qianlong period with landscape panels reserved in a beautiful simulated agate pattern. During the Qianlong reign, Imperial kiln had become very innovative with new type of glazes and modes of decoration. Simulating patterns of wood, bronze, and precious stones became a challenge for Qianlong potters. This fine vase demonstrates the achievement of the potters' attempts to imitate dramatic pattern of natural agate stone by using various shades of brown and sepia enamels. The ovoid body stands on a rounded tall foot ring and rises to a short neck and a shallow cup-shaped mouth. On each side of the exterior is a large panel framed in a gilt border. Each panel is painted in fine famille rose palette with a fine mountainous water landscape with scholar's retreat and boats. The painterly quality of the famille rose remind us of fine 18th Century literati's painting scrolls. The reserve space is ingeniously painted in sepia brown enamels with a pattern of striking resemblance to natural agate stone. the interior and the base inside the foot ring is covered with pale turquoise enamel. A six-character Qianlong seal mark in underglaze blue is inscribed on the base inside the foot rim. This extremely rare and magnificent vase is in excellent condition.
