Rare Incised Gilt Bronze Covered Vase, Western Han Dynasty

We are offering this beautiful and rare Chinese antiquities item of a covered gilt vase with elaborately carved design from the Western Han Dynasty. The small vase has a classic bronze "Hu" shape with a globular body standing on a splayed foot ring and rising to a constricted neck and a flared mouth rim. On each side of the shoulder is attached with a "taotie" mask with a loose loop. The dome-shaped cover is attached with three loop handles. The exterior surface is elaborately incised with stylized depiction of animal, human, birds, and clouds in the style of Han Dynasty fabric and painted lacquer decoration. The bronze is richly gilded with most gilt still intact. The surface retains some burial soil as well as green and red encrustation from metal oxidation. This rare early bronze vessel is in excellent condition with virtually no dent nor significant wear to the gilt surface.
