Antique Jadeite Ink Slab, Qing Dynasty

We are very pleased to offer this very fine and rare Chinese jadeite carving of a ink slab. This antique jadeite item was carved from a single large block of jadeite of white color with apple green inclusion. The slab is carved in low relief with a butterfly flying over a flower branch growing out of a rock work. The concave small and large inkwell are well finished with excellent polish. The underside is flat without any decoration. The carver skillfully used the green color of the natural stone to enhance the decoration. The final result is a tasteful scholar's items made from a sumptuous material reserved for elite class. There are a few old chips as photographed. Other than the chips, the beautiful ink slab is in excellent condition with superb patina.
