Large Famille Rose Bowl, Xianfeng Mark & Period



This is an extremely large and fine famille rose bowl from Xianfeng Period (1851-1861) of Qing Dynasty. Among all Qing Dynasty Imperial porcelains, Xianfeng Period Imperial ware had the smallest production and hence only a limited number of Xianfeng mark and period pieces has survived. We are fortunate to be able to preserve one of the best examples of Famille rose porcelain from that period. The large bowl is decorated in the exterior and the interior with a continuous scene of flowering branches. Two finely painted magpie birds fly among flowers in the exterior while two butterflies enliven the picture in the interior. The painting by famille rose enamels was superbly executed with 18th century Imperial ware quality. The glaze is of typical 19th Century Imperial ware quality with semi-transparent white. The base is inscribed with a six-character Imperial Xianfeng mark in dark cobalt blue. Other than a very minute surface flaking chip at the unglazed foot ring, the beautiful bowl is in excellent condition. This is a rare and authentic Qing Dynasty Imperial porcelain not to be missed by any serious collector of Chinese ceramics.
