This is a beautiful pair of imperial dragon saucer dishes decorated with doucai palettes from Yongzheng period (1722-1735) of Qing Dynasty. Each dishes is each well-potted with a rounded wall flaring to the mouth rim and sitting on a shallow foot ring. The interior is divided into a center well and a side band. The center well is decorated with a five-claw dragon and the flaming pearl among clouds. The side band at the cavetto is adorned with stylized cloud motif in colorful doucai enamel over cobalt blue outlines. The exterior is painted with a band of swirling wave in transparent green enamel and fine blue outlines. An Imperial six-character seal mark in archaic scripts is inscribed at the center of the base with underglaze cobalt blue. This pair of dishes with delicate doucai decoration was reserved for exclusive use by Imperial household. We acquired this fine pair of doucai dishes in Japan in early 1960's and has remained in our collection since then. These dishes are in excellent condition except for some minor enamel wears.
